In this episode of the YATA podcast, Oshi kicks things off with a live guitar intro inspired by Rush’s A Farewell to Kings, and we dive into listener boosts, shoutouts, and some fun back-and-forth about our evolving “like and um” jar. We compare podcast listener stats (Podhome.fm), talk about where folks are tuning in (hello, Tanzania!), and share an open invite for questions and emails. From there we go deep on building a circular Bitcoin economy: meetups, onboarding newcomers with wallets, pricing products in USD while settling in sats via BTCPay Server, and the realities of accounting, cash flow, and taxes when you’re trying to operate on Bitcoin first. We also trade notes on Nostr clients, peer‑to‑peer swaps with RoboSats and Bisq, and the small-business grind behind handmade products—right down to Oshi’s latest jam experiment. If you’re curious about value‑for‑value, boosts, and practical steps to earn, spend, and account in Bitcoin, this one’s for you. We keep it candid, practical, and a little goofy—just the way we like it.

1978? '79? One of those. Great album. Great single track. But the title would be fitting somewhere in here. So good little classical intro. Yeah. It sounded sounded good. There was a bit of feedback about the guitar, and it was all positive. That's nice. Yeah. We gotta we gotta leave it. It's a good little nuance thing. Something like that, you know? Absolutely. So this is a value for value podcast where we discuss, well, basically whatever we want to. And we are we try to absorb questions and any comments that you, the the listener have or set forth.
It's forced furthermore. And and so the part of that is is receiving boosts which are just small amounts of bitcoin in the form of Satoshis. And any podcasting two point o enabled podcast player will allow you to send send us boosts. And so we like to go over those at the beginning for the people that have supported us in that way. Mhmm. And so just going from from my helipad here. The first one that comes up is a 199 sats from Drumroll, please. Yeah. Yeah. Sorry. Asnide thirty seven? Hasnide. Yeah. Asnyde37@fountain.fm.
And that was from the last episode titled Fearless Circular Economy. And it's a heart I heart heart the guitar. Also have fountain issues, which is good. I'm glad I'm not the only one. And then the abominable, I don't think that's the right use of that word, Chad f. Respect the man. Well, I I was trying to. Is that what does abominable mean? I mean, know the snowman, but Yeah. But I think that's yeah. I think it's just, you know, applicable to the snowman only. Okay. Well He's he reserved that, right, for that word? Yeah. I guess so. Alright. Well, the He's trademarked it. Incomparable?
Is that The amazing, the grace, the the I don't know. Fantastic. The fantastic Chad f with Nice. 333 sets. Looks like from Castomatic, which is one of those podcasting players that we talked about. It's a two point o enabled podcast player. And this one says the guitar is a nice addition. I like it. So that yeah. That's straight up praise. And then another one for three thirty three from Chad F as well. And it says like them jar sounds like something super official. Oh, absolutely. It's got a registered trademark and and I think it's got its own zip code. It's gonna have its own domain soon. So Nice.
We should probably check to make sure that that's available. Youlikethemjar.com. I guarantee it. Oh, what? I'm getting confetti. Confetti? We just yeah. Look at that. Dirt while I'm looking at this thing, someone sent one sat from a lightning invoice with a poop emoji. I'm pretty sure that's not for the I don't I don't know. It's a satogram. So this is define the best rates for Bitcoin on LN and other cryptos. Compare instant exchanges and p two p markets now with no KYC prepaid cards. Call now. Call now. That's right. If you order within the next thirty minutes.
Yeah. Well, you can keep And the one then there's a $10.33 sats from Jim Seifert at fountain.fm, which says this should help the jar. And then there's a bunch of hashtags, which is cool. And then there's a 500 sats for from user five nine four three seven three five two at fountain dot f m with no with no boostogram, no message attached. And I think that might be the same user that has boosted a couple times now. So if you've got a name or you want some other type of shout out, let us know user five nine four three seven three five two. Leave a note.
Absolutely. Be cheeky with it. I like the fun ones. Absolutely. Something about this has to be fun. Mhmm. Oh, a 100 okay. That was fun too. That was fun. 100 that was. 101 sats from undisciplined. Legend. Thank you. Yeah. Absolutely. It says love the stacker news shout shout outs. Oh, yeah. And I think that that is all from that we haven't read already. So thank you, guys. That is amazing support. We appreciate it. Definitely. Other ways that you can you can help us out is to share it with somebody, share the podcast with somebody that you think might enjoy it, or just send us messages. We still don't have any any emails.
We've had quite a few Noster notes, which is Mhmm. Which is nice. I don't have any of them handy, but I know that that someone said that they didn't know that you could play music and that I was fun. So Yeah. We are we are making impressions that way. That's cool. It's organic, you know. Gotta leave some surprises. Absolutely. We're, saying absolutely a lot too. Absolutely. Absolute. That's the absolutely song. I need a better vocabulary is what it comes down to. Had I mean For sure. Throwing around abominable.
Hey. At least they're not the l word or the, you know, s word or f word. So We'll get there. We'll get there maybe. We can discuss that right now if you want to. The Lycanum jar. Yeah it's just a little thing that we keep to keep ourselves sound and proper, know. Some kids might be listening. That's right. Gotta we gotta keep them pure. Trying to remove fillers from our conversations. Yeah. You just sound better without saying it. I think anyways, especially the other day. I'm not sure if I mentioned it on last episode. I probably mentioned it to a friend, I was at the river a couple days ago and there were some two couples talking and the one guy was using, I'm gonna say it now, don't count it against me. He was saying like, like every other word. It was insane.
So don't do that. Be better. Bebetter. Yep. Exactly. Bebetter.com. So what we've set up well, we haven't set up, but we're going to set up. And we're we're keeping a a running total for likes and ums. And, thankfully, we didn't do uhs because I would I would have to remortgage my house from the last episode somehow. I don't even understand. But so for episode three, the number of words that that Oshi spoke was 4,102. That's more than last time. That is more than last time. I think you're just trying to take over the podcast. Little by little. Slowly than suddenly.
With 25 fillers for a percentage of point six one, and that's two ums and 15 likes. What? Wow. But that's also eight Us. I think we decided we're not counting the Us. We can. No. Don't count the Us. I think those are more organic. Those aren't as annoying. No. They yes. We'll we'll see. Because mine, 9,892 words, 79 fillers for point 8% of my words, 13 ums, six likes, 60 uhs, it says. Is that spelled U H or with three h's? Oh, man. Well, I think one of them was that extended, maybe it counted that as 20 or 30 or or 50.
True. Got that going against you. Man, I'm I'm doing alright with the likes. Yeah. You're killing it. The yeah. I don't wanna talk about it anymore. I'm curious how we started saying that. Not us two, but just people in general. I'm not sure what the the cause of that is. Be an interesting little rabbit hole to dig into. Well, I think it's the way that I look at it is that people Are just getting more dumb? Well, yes. That might be part of it. That might be part of it. It's also where there's you can't have silence between people. Mhmm. You know? And and so you say, in order to to keep to keep you being the talker.
Right? Like, if I'm saying, then you're not you're not able to You're not engaging. I'm saying that and and then I'm trying to formulate what I'm trying to say in my head. That's kind of the way that I see it. Is it it's just you don't know exactly what you're gonna say yet. I don't think people in the fifties said that though. No. Because there was there's normality in in speech, I think. I mean, even if you look at letters written home by civil war soldiers, and it might be a farmer or just somebody that's not well educated, and the the writing, it it sounds like prose. It sounds like a it's just beautifully written. And it's all in cursive, which we don't do anymore.
No. I haven't. I haven't done cursive in probably ten years. My b's are terrible. Same with my z's. Oh my gosh. Know. Signature though is pretty sick, I will admit. Yeah. Nice. That's all that really matters. That's all that matters, I think, nowadays. I'm really good with emojis though. Oh, yeah? Like you draw them? Oh, no. I see. No. No. No. No. No. I don't I don't draw them. I find them and then put them in. Like poop. Gotcha. I I feel like I feel like I'm decent at at picking out GIFs too. Oh, man. I love me a good GIF. Absolutely. Does make me laugh so much.
I said absolutely again. I'm I'm I've got I've got a real problem here with with my speech patterns. We're we're gonna start counting those now. I almost said it again. I stopped my I'm I'm learning. It's good practice, man. Good on you. Hey. Thank you. Now go to your room. Is there anything else that we do on a normal basis with this as episode four? It's blanking on me. I'm sure there is something I forget. Did we run the numbers about listeners? No. We Where they came from? Good idea. Let's do that real quick because I'm curious. Where do we leave off, number wise? We need a a do we have any bumper music?
We can do something. Gonna get the stats. Gonna get stats. Alright. Let's hear it. Alright. So this is through podhome.fm and how accurate these are. Don't know, but we'll use them. So the for the let's go to the last two episodes. That sounds like a good plan. The last one, Fearless Circular Economy is at 439 downloads, and the episode before that, Fug them, is at 562. 500? Nice. Yeah. Five sixty two. Sick. And woah. Okay. Apple people are listening, I think. Apple Podcast is down to 39.4%, and Domus is up to 38.42%.
Interesting. We still don't know. Nobody Yeah. I mean, there's people listening. Somebody tell us how you're listening on Domus. Yeah. Blows my mind. I think Wisp has a new podcast player. Yeah. I was just about to say. I was wondering if you checked it out since you have the Android. Not yet, but I definitely will be. Yeah. I I was with a friend in up in New Jersey, he was showing me Wisp. Looks pretty cool. I looked at user interface. You should check it out. No. I have used Wisp, but I haven't used the podcast It's part of I have a problem because I really like Amethyst.
Mhmm. And just the way that it's laid out, it just works for my brain. Mhmm. And going to any of the the other ones, it's just not as pleasant for me. Just the way that the notifications and things are set up. But I will give I'll give WISP a try. Yeah. Yeah. I I feel that. I was using Domus for such a long time and I it's honestly my favorite one in terms of like UI and whatnot, but the the storage that it just takes up is so massive. Literally 30 gigs. It's crazy. That is crazy. And that's And I clear the cache every off so often, but it's you know, I don't know what the problem is. So I moved over to Nostr, which is pretty cool. So Shout out Noster.
Noster. Yeah. I don't think many people use it, but definitely check it out. You can switch between your end pubs, which is handy. That is that's definitely a necessity. Mhmm. Because Wisp has that now I saw as well. Cool. Which is nice. Yeah. It's nice to not log out every time when you wanna switch. But in Domus, you gotta switch or you gotta log out, which is really annoying. Other than that, I really love Domus. Shout out to what's his name? Will. Doing a good job with the development and stuff.
Well, that's the thing too is that you can complain as much as you want about any of these products, but they're all free. A lot of them are open source. And if you got a problem with it, either move to something else or work with a developer. Yeah. Or build one yourself. Yeah. Or build it yourself. I've seen some people do that. Like, they built their own little Nostril client kind of lightweight thing. Kinda cool. I I thought about trying it, but I'm not a developer. So Well, or Ditto as well, which I think is Ditto. Yeah. Derek Ross Mhmm. Which is a another new client. I is that what it I'm not sure what it is. Is that something that you can build with, or is it a I really don't know. I haven't spent much time with it.
There's just so much, man. I'm There is. I'm threadbare at this point as far as as far as time goes. Yeah. Yeah. So I I love to see the development, though. Oh, for sure. It just keeps going and going. It's impossible to keep up. Mhmm. Seems to be the way of things. Unfortunately, 80% is still Apple iPhone, and 99.6% is Android phones for the downloads. Well, I am still a contributor to the iOS camp, unfortunately. I gotta get away. I'll try not to hold it against you too much. I know. I know. And there has now been a download in Latvia, Albania, Tanzania.
Down under. So we're still looking for any correspondence from anyone, but I would be especially interested in anybody from these smaller countries. Tanzania. Shout out Tanzania. How about you throw us a message? Yeah. What's the latest in Tanzania? What's going on over there? The email address is sayhi@youarethealgo.com. I don't even know if it works. Somebody just send a send an email just so we can check to see if it works. Send it. Say hi. Alright. I think that is all the housekeeping. Again, I I apologize. I'm I'm extremely tired and scattered. I've got I'm way behind on so many things.
What'd you do today? Oh. Not as much as I needed to. That's for sure. My day was pretty busy. It's a good day though. Wanna hear about it? Wanna hear it? Here it go. No. It was a good day. This morning, I actually had a Bitcoiner meetup here in, my little town. It was a lot of fun. 10AM. There was maybe one, two, three, four, five, six of us. Yeah. Was a good time. I brought some hotdle butter, got everybody to try some, sold a couple jars. There was a new lady there today. Really, really nice. She was using Aqua Wallet, so I was kind of helping her switch between because I've never used it personally. I have it, but I never I never use it. She had some funds on her layer one, and she wanted to use it via Lightning, and I didn't know how to swap for a bit on there. So we figured it out, did the transaction, had to guide her through it. So it's fun doing that on these little meetups to, like, get people to do it in real life to actually practice doing it. So that was really fun.
And then there's, a little wine shop here in town that I have some jars selling at. So I went there. What did they sell them? Two two jars. Came back, and then I made some jam or jelly. I'm not sure which is which. I don't know what the difference is, but came out amazing. Amazing. Nice. I the way that I understand it is that jam has seeds and jelly doesn't. Okay. Then it's jam. But I'm a I'm a chocolatite, so who knows? What I did actually it's actually kinda cool. I was it a cheesecloth that I have? Yeah. It was a cheesecloth, and I act absolutely ruined it because it's, like, purple now.
But it worked perfect. I took some of the seeds out and kinda squeezed the juice the remainder juice out of it. So I kept some, removed maybe half of the seeds. So it's kind of a blend fifty fifty juice, fifty fifty seeds. Used lemon juice, maple sugar, and then vanilla, which is like cane sugar. I got that from Bitcoin beans on Noster. So it was mostly the vanilla followed by a smaller ratio of the maple sugar. Man, it is awesome. And I you know, was a slow cook, slow boil, so it can get, you know, more firm and not so runny kind of thing.
I nailed it. I was kind of curious if I needed the pectin from what we were talking about last time, but man, I need to make more. I need to pick more berries though. That's the challenging part. Yeah. It's a lot of work. It's fun though, but I realized that I could have made probably close to three eight ounce jars. I I made one. I'm gonna try and sell that maybe tomorrow, so keep an eye out. Calling it a, you know, the non creative name of huddle jelly maybe? But it is honestly delicious. Damn it, I said it.
Oh no, followed by another one. It is really good though, so I gotta pick more and hopefully well, I mean, it's not even May yet. That's when they usually come in. And you were saying you don't even see them yet where you are. So Oh, no. No. No. We're that the blackberries are one of the last berries that we see. It won't be till probably September. September. Wow. Yeah. It's crazy. And we were getting the salmon berries are usually the first. Some things are flowering right now, but we're not getting we're not getting any any berries for a while.
Yeah. We're we're getting some still. I I see them green right now. They're they're still ripening up, so they'll they'll come around in the next couple weeks. And so I should be able to produce some jelly. It's certainly a lot of work just picking, but I realized today during the process of actually using the maple sugar and the vanilla together works amazing. So that was really cool to see. And also the lemon juice. That was a big play there for sure. That was like a last minute. Oh, let me use this kind of thing.
Because I didn't wanna use the pectin. I didn't wanna use that for some reason because I felt like I could get the texture, that thick jelly texture if I were to just slow cook it, and I did. So no pectin. You don't need it. Nice. Well, I'm yeah. I wish that we were neighbors. I know. That'd be fun. That would be pretty fun. I wish I was neighbors with all of, you know, my Noster buddies, gals, boys. I don't know. I wish there was like a little I don't know. We need a better means of transportation or something.
Or an island. We need somebody that has been in Bitcoin a lot longer than I have should buy Nostril Island. We got That would be so awesome. Yeah. No. I totally agree. I I wish I could hang with all my all my buddies I talk to every day like you and we would produce amazing stuff. We really would. I mean, I think that the creme de la creme of society is that that confluence of Nostrand Bitcoiners. Mhmm. Yeah. I really think so. I realized that with these Bitcoin meetups, everyone's just on the same page. So easy to talk to, and everyone's excited and curious to learn about, you know, what someone else is doing or their story. It's just different. It's you gotta just experience it.
Well, on that front, I have found a, quote, unquote, local Bitcoin meetup, which is in the Comox Valley. It's called the Comox Valley Circular Economy, and they do a a monthly Bitcoin meetup, which I've never been to one. And I'm gonna try to go at the end of this month to the my first one. Yeah. You should definitely do that. Bring some of your samples of your goodies. Oh, it's a good idea. Definitely. And I might be able to and it's actually interesting. Yesterday, I met Adam who Back? Is the no. Is the the guy behind coin off wallet.
Oh, nice. That's cool. It was cool, man. It was really cool. It was his first time. Does he live in Canada? I don't know how much I want to divulge because I That's cool. I don't know yet how I think he's I think he's pretty doxxed. But until I get a little more information, I don't wanna spill too much too much beef. That's cool. Was just yeah. It was just cool to it was just cool to meet another we're we're talking and and I asked him what he did, and he he said that he developed a Bitcoin wallet. Oh, boy. Here we go.
And then and then I asked him which one. I said, yep. I've used it. Wow. And so then we got talking, and I was asked asked him if he was on Nostril, and he said yes. And so it's there haven't been very many of those type of of meetings in in my life around here. Yeah. This doesn't seem to be a huge community, but maybe I'm starting to crack that nut and maybe it's Yeah. More Yeah. Abundant than I thought. Mhmm. No. That's cool. It's very novel. And it's just an instant connection too. Mhmm. Yeah. Exactly.
Need some more of those. Because I actually, yesterday, I bought a side of beef, which is now in my freezer and looks fantastic. It's so fun to get four boxes of of meat and to sit there and unpack it and, oh, porterhouse steaks. Alright. T bone steaks. Yeah. Ground beef. Okay. Where did you get it from? This was from a local guy. His name is Ben Glassen, Glassen Farms. And it is yeah. I mean, it's it's local, and there's a good chance that I'll be paying Bitcoin for it. Hell, yeah. So that's that actually could bring us into some of the you had put out that you were looking for subjects or questions, and I think undisciplined was had mentioned talking more about circular economy. Maybe you have the the actual Oh, yeah. No. I have the question here. Yeah. He he said, I want more circular economy talk, specifically your experience as Bitcoin entrepreneurs.
What it's been like trying to find suppliers and partners who accept Bitcoin. Yeah. There you go. How do you do your pricing? Are you able to use Bitcoin as your unit of account? How do you manage your fiat expenses? So quite a laundry list there, but I can go first on this one if you want because I am not deep in taxes right now, and I've spent way too many days working on it because I not to get too boring or more boring. I have I've had a a sole proprietorship for a while doing different things. And then with with Permanerd Inc, it's called, which is which is mostly mostly just stats for snacks.
Mhmm. I set up a a corporation, which Like an LLC? Or a Well, there's not really LLCs up in Canada. It's it's a it's a a corporate situation. It's kind of the same thing, though, you know, that limited liability and blah blah blah. And whether I needed to do it, I don't know. Part of me just wanted to go through that process because it's like having alligator clips clipped to your nipples and then to a 12 volt battery. You know, you just gotta do it once to see what it's like. Sure. And so then Sign me up. And so now I'm of course, I'd never did any of the accounting or, know, I kept track of of sales, and I've got BTCPay and that trying to get all of that blah blah blah. I set up ERPNext, it's called, on a server in my office, and now I'm trying to put all of my accounting type stuff into there.
And so it's just a it's a complete mess because it it's not a mess, but it takes so long because now you have to set up every type of account. Oh, they paid cash. Now I need to put, you know, a cash account. And the the fun part is that I like to do things that the hard way, like, the extreme hard way most of the time. So I set this up. I'm in Canada, and I go to check you know, I'm just poking around on this this program, and I don't know anything about accounting. You know? Yeah. Current assets, liabilities, blah blah blah. Yep. And it's all in French.
Oh. And so I I'm I'm using ChatGPT to get me through this, and I had already done enough of the setup that it recommended just changing the names of the accounts that I'm using Uh-huh. And then continuing on. But then you go in further and there's just more and more of these accounts, and then you're, like, digging through, like, I have no idea French. I don't know French, man. And so I'm trying to find the French and then make sure that I changed the name to it properly. And it it's just a it's been so long of a process.
Yeah. I bet. And and as far as that I mean, that was a shaggy dog story to get to the point of the way that it works as far as taking and this is as far as I understand it. Because a smarter person than myself would have talked to an accountant and, you know, like, tried to actually figure out if what I'm doing is even legal in Canada. But the way it works is you take the the Bitcoin as a payment, and then that is you the the amount is used at the time that it's received in fiat. So the the conversion is done at the time.
And then that Bitcoin is now considered an asset, I believe. And then if you when you sell it, if you have to sell it, then you're charged capital gains on any profit that you made from it going up. And did you have to sell any? No. But I think could say yes or no. I think I'm gonna have to just because to answer the other part of the question, I have not been able to hook up with with any suppliers that will accept Bitcoin. And then there's shipping costs and, you know, packaging and everything else. And so I don't have enough cash set. Have you ever used Robo Sets?
No. I've heard of it a lot, but I've never is that for selling? It's for both buying and selling. If you wanna just, you know, sell peer to peer with somebody you could do that. It's something that I do personally. Been using it for a while. And when you sell, you can actually make a premium on it. Yeah, definitely. I've used Bisc. Bisc. Yeah. For that. I've never used that yet. It was it was good. I had one issue where I I've never sold. I've always just bought. Mhmm. And the transaction didn't didn't didn't go through.
The money went through, but the actual Bitcoin never transferred. And so I went through the the proper channels. Mhmm. And it was sorted out within a day, I think. Yeah. Because there's I mean, it's like we talked about last time with, you know, once that once that Yeah. Leaves your wallet, you're not getting it back. Mhmm. So I'm looking for I'm hoping that this this meetup and just I'm hoping that I'm starting to well, I'm just hoping that some contacts will eventually transpire where I can Yeah. I can get local products and use Bitcoin to buy them. Yep.
Yeah. Definitely. I find laughs here. It's still like, you you ask people, like, do you accept Bitcoin? Are you interested in Bitcoin? And people just laugh like you're making a joke and just stare at them like, hey, man. I'm I'm serious. Yeah, Today today at the meetup this morning, this coffee shop that I've been going to, I've asked them seven times now. The seventh was today. And if they take Bitcoin because they have one of those square terminals and all they gotta do is just update their system, I believe, and it's automatically there. They can choose whether or not to take all fiat or fiftyfifty, I believe. But either way, they're still clueless on it.
So the other guy in the group, he goes up and bothers them a little bit, just fun. And he comes out, the guy working there is like, yeah, you could talk to the owner. He's not here right now, but if you guys really wanted, I'm sure he would listen to you because now there's four, five of you asking, so I'm sure. And I'm just thinking to myself, yeah man, I mean it would save you guys, you know, 5% on the credit card fees and you still get the money. So just do it. Just I don't know. It's so annoying that some of these merchants have the Square terminals and they're just not enabling it for whatever reason. Or maybe there's something with Square that needs some, I don't know, clarity in terms of how to set it up for these guys. I really don't know, but it was a really unfortunate day. I I was really hoping that they would, but wow.
Well, the way that I have heard, it's just a it's a toggle switch. Right. You just flip flip it on. You just use your finger and you go on the screen and you just push the little thing and then it's on. And then you save money. I'm not I'm not trained to do that. I'm sorry. I'm not. I don't Yeah. No. It hurts my fingers. I've got blisters on my fingers. Yeah. I've got blisters on my fingers. Do you want to go into that question? I'd be interested to hear your side of the I'll answer how do you do your pricing.
So when I actually set up my products, which I run a BTCPay server, the pricing is set in dollars. So when you go and visit the website, the stats on the website update automatically and be converted. I used to on the previous website I had to update the Sats price manually which was quite a headache. Would have to do it every few days. If it moved up quick I would have to move it but I would generally just leave it. But now it updates automatically on the set USD price that I have on BTCPay so that's been awesome.
How do I do my pricing though? How do I? I don't know. It's just a general rule of thumb I guess for when you're selling a product. So you know you can you have your unit cost, your production cost and you just multiply that by two or three or whatever you're comfortable with and consider your time, the amount of work that goes into it of course. This stuff that I make is an incredible amount of time. I laugh at myself sometimes. I'm working the amount of five people sometimes. It's a just lot of work. I do the graphic design and the packaging and the making and the cleaning up and it's just a lot. There's that to account for the pricing. So multiply that times your costs and that's how I do my pricing. It's pretty straight forward.
How do you manage your fiat expenses? Well, everything is paid in Bitcoin for me. I don't take fiat unless, for example, today at the local wine shop in my town, he gives me a check. So that's the only time I take fiat. But other than that, everything's Bitcoin. I think the question was expenses though. How do you manage your fiat expenses? In the Yeah, packaging and shipping and Yeah. So I actually do have an LLC. It's not Oshi. It's actually still under the other name. So I actually do have a LLC associated with it. The expenses, sometimes I do swap the Bitcoin for the cash using either RoboSAS or a peer to peer. I have a number of friends where we just trade, which is something that we spoke about today at the Bitcoin meetup, is just more of that. We need a group where people can just say, I'm looking to buy or sell some and just swap that way so you don't have to do it on the exchanges or incur some sort of taxable event. You can just do it clean that way. I mean that's just how I've done it personally.
But to manage your fiat expenses think that answers it though. Mean you sell bitcoin in order to get fiat. If I need to. Yeah. And if, you know, I do other stuff too. I do a lot of like freelance stuff and that generally also pays for it. And I, you know, I have my own little accounting system that I do. It's very simple. I keep it pretty lean. I already did pay my taxes but all the Bitcoin that I earned, I didn't sell any of it on the exchanges or anything. So there is no taxable event on that. So I don't know. I hope that helps but That's where I guess I didn't answer that as well as I could have too. The the way that that I'm set up at this point is that I've put in just personal money for all the all the expenses that I've had so far.
And then within that ERPNext program, basically you have to create a purchase invoice. And then what's called a journal entry. And that journal entry is shareholder, like the that it was paired paid by the shareholder. And so now I've got I don't know. I owe myself money from the corporation is how I I hate this stuff. Have a track of that. God, I hate this stuff. I use a program called manager.io. It's free and it's pretty good. Before that I was using self employed QuickBooks which, oh my gosh, I hated it so much. So I found manager.
Something worth looking into if you want a free bare bones accounting software that just works. So I don't know, something to check out. This ERPNext is also free. It's an open source. And it's amazing that, I mean, it's just the the another open source project that is I don't I haven't utilized programs, but it looks to me like it would be just as good as anything that you paid a good amount of money for. Right. And I'm also hosting it on my own servers. So trying to get that self sovereignty part. Nice.
But who knows? I don't even know if we I don't even know what the output will this of this will be. If if it if the accountant just looks at it and goes, I could bite my ass with this, but that's about it. This is nonsense. Yeah. Taxes, man. I I freaking hate it. All this accounting stuff. I took accounting in college when I was going for like two years before I quit. And at the end of the semester, I burned my accounting book. Hated it so much. Nice. I literally burnt it. Yeah. I I really, really did not enjoy that class. Well, I'm sure that everybody's listening to this understands that taxation is theft anyway.
It's there's no reason that you need to Yeah. Put people through the amount of time it takes and the stress that it takes to do their taxes when all you're going to do is print more money than you collect Exactly, the taxes hurts my head when I think about it. And that's the thing that I hope will lure more people in into asking more questions about Bitcoin because if that doesn't frustrate you, I don't know what will. I really don't know what will because that's what got me going. I realized that and I was, oh my gosh. This is how many people actually realize this and understand that? I don't really think that many. Not many. No. I mean, you look at you ask people what what causes inflation.
No. Not even that. I asked somebody at one of the other Bitcoin meetups in Crosstown. I asked them or I mentioned the word fiat, and they said, what do you mean? They don't understand the term fiat. So that's just I don't know, man. Yeah. Wild It is. And it's understandable too because it's not taught. Mhmm. I know you you would expect most people that are into to Bitcoin got there via the rationale that that fiat is trash and that it's going Mhmm. It's not going it's never gonna become more valuable. Only gonna become less valuable.
And but I think there's also a lot of Bitcoiners that are more along the lines of investors. And Right. Don't understand it or see it as a way to fix the economy or to stabilize against, you know, a worthless fiat currency. And and so that's what it is. It's just a way I'm not saying this is what that person was, just a way to get rich. Right? It's gambling is what it is. Yeah, that mindset will persist for a very long time. I have it on my sticker, Bitcoin is money, use it as such. I really try to promote that as much as I can. I use it every day.
I think about it every single day. I was laughing the other day. I haven't thought about something so much. Every single day for the past, I don't know, four or five years, Bitcoin has just been on my mind. And not even Bitcoin itself, but the avenue in which it takes you to learn a lot of things. Not just about Bitcoin, but the monetary system and maybe a little bit of math, maybe some physics, maybe some history. That's really what Bitcoin does, I think. It has this intrinsic value of teaching you something. It takes you down quite quite the rabbit hole.
It does. It opens up it opens up avenues, you know, firing synopsis in your head. Synopsis or Yeah. Synopsis? Pick. The synapse in your neurons in your copus callosum. Wow. Yes that. Know what got me into into diving deeper into the Fiat rabbit hole and eventually reading the creature from Jekyll Island and starting to, you know, actually pay attention to what the Federal Reserve is and the World Bank and how they fit into everything, wars, the economy. Yep. And for anyone listening that doesn't know what fiat is, the I believe the definition of a fiat currency is a currency that has no physical backing. It's not backed by gold or any other tangible asset and is required by law, which is the legal tender part, that you have to accept it in repayment of debt.
So the government is forcing a garbage currency on people. And if you don't there was there was times in The US history where if you didn't accept the fiat currency of the government, that you could be tried as a traitor. Mhmm. So it's just it's such a massive avenue of corruption. Yeah. It's it's just saying, you know, I declare that this is worth this much is really what fiat translates to. And you have to take it. You have to accept And you have to take it. Yeah. It's it's a Looney Tunes money. It's insane.
Yeah. But here we are. But here we are working on trying to create avenues to to avoid the fiat currency. Yeah. This is exactly why I do what I do with Oshi with only taking Bitcoin. I really want to focus my time and energy in supporting a better system. I want this to succeed. Why would I? I don't know. To my mind and people can do what they want. I don't care. But I don't know. If if I'm gonna do something like this and I'm putting my time and energy into this, by golly, I'm gonna earn the hardest money and support the thing at the same time, which will hopefully bring a better future, not just for me, but literally everybody.
That's really why I do this. So I don't know. Again, people can do what they want. People can take the fiat for their products. I don't care. But just for me personally, the mission is pretty clear. It was pretty clear from day one, to be honest. So I I agree. You can't fix it. The you're not gonna be able to to fix the the Fiat system, but you can create that that parallel circular economy to bring it full circle. There's a way out now. You know? It's you know, I'm not sure if I mentioned it on the last podcast, but I think about this myself. It's, you know, akin to what Noah's Ark was.
It's you know, the flood is here, and there's a life raft, but not everybody can fit on it at the same time. You know? So I find some weird parallel between that. Maybe I'm just wrong on that, but I really do believe that this is this is the the life wrapped, so to speak. And it is. And what what's to say or who's to say that Bitcoin is not a more valuable asset than fiat currency or any anything else? And so if if I mean, you know, as a doomsday hypothetical, the world collapses and, you know, what the shit hits the fan.
If there are enough people that are in this Bitcoin economy, it can still function. Mhmm. The the dollar will absolutely collapse, and the the Bitcoin economy can can thrive. And it's Yeah. It's not a it's not a way just to make money, like we talked about speculation. Mhmm. It's a way to trade instead of going back to trading rocks with people or, you know, whatever type beads. Yeah. Mhmm. You can actually have this stabilized economy that I'm just rambling now, I guess, but it's Yeah. Yeah. No. It's because it has utility as well. And I think an important point to mention is actually, I brought this up this morning at the meetup, is that it's hard for us westerns in the Western civilization to understand what it's like to not have access to your money or inflation rates of 600% or 1000%.
Like these countries in Africa or something where they really struggle with sending money out and trying to even spend it on whatever that they're trying to buy before the next day prices just go up and they can't afford it anymore. Bitcoin really solves that problem from what I understand and just what I read and see and hear. I think the real utility I mean, that's the thing about Bitcoin. Bitcoin can help so many people in a variety of different ways. It's not just one way. It's kind of pretty much what the internet I mean, it's just technology at the end of the day. You can't stop this thing. So for as long as there's utility to it, it will succeed and it has been. So it's it's staying.
I really unless there's an asteroid that comes and just kills everybody, but that's a whole other problem. Well, it it is. It is. What happens if electricity goes down, the grid goes down? Well, you're not gonna get your money out of the bank. I can guarantee you that. Well, what if I die? Yeah. That's right. That's that's the classic though. Like, woah, the Bitcoin count. What what if the power grid goes down? Where where do you think your fiat is? You know, it's not like the bank has you know, you go into
